Planning a trip to a dream destination like the Maldives is always such an exciting thing. The Maldives has become one of the go-to vacation destinations as of late, and for good reason. With its white sand beaches and clear turquoise waters, its islands are absolutely breathtaking. Just like any other vacation, it is best to plan ahead and figure out your budget along with the place you want to stay as well as keep in mind what activities you want to do while there. To help out with the planning, we’ve compiled here some tips for traveling to the Maldives.
1. Figure Out Your Budget
The first thing to do before planning a vacation is figuring out how much you’re willing and able to spend on it. Do you want to go all out for a luxurious experience? Do you want to stay on a tight budget and experience the islands from a local’s point of view? Do you want to spend the entire time lounging in your hotel or resort or explore the other islands? How about snorkeling or spa treatments? All of these things can seriously affect the budget one way or another, so you should have a plan in mind of what your vacation will consist of. It’s also crucial to keep flights and other transport in mind as it can all add up.
2. Check The Weather
Just like any other place, the weather can change throughout the year. It can rain any time during the year, but for the most part, the climate is warm and sunny. You’re better off checking the weather close to the time of your departure and make sure you check the specific island you’ll be staying on. There are over 2,000 islands there which means the weather isn’t necessarily exactly the same on all of them. In any case, you might want to bring light clothing.
3. Rules To Keep In Mind
Since the Maldives is technically a Muslim country, things like alcohol are completely banned on the islands. Women are banned from showing their shoulders, knees, and elbows. There is no pork on the islands and public displays of affection are not allowed.
However, all these rules don’t apply to the hotels and resorts on the islands.
4. Getting From Island To Island
As we’ve mentioned, the transport between the islands can be rather expensive. When planning your trip to the Maldives, you need to remember to include the transport in your budget as it can cost even more than your hotel stay or even your flight there. For instance, a seaplane to an island may be just a 15-minute ride but it can cost hundreds of dollars. Since hotels tend to each have their own island, transportation is a mandatory addition to the budget as there is no other way to get from island to island.
5. Less Is More
With the Maldives, being on the islands is magnificent, but if your plan is to just stay at a resort or hotel, you may want to keep your vacation short, up to a week or so. Being on the same island for longer than 5 or 6 days can get rather boring, and this way your trip will be short and sweet.
