We get it, packing your own food for your next flight sounds rather silly. Especially since most airlines provide their own snacks and meals, so why would you even bother to bring your own? Well there are actually plenty of reasons that you should consider packing ~some~ healthy travel snacks for your next trip. Just ask any seasoned traveler to share their horror stories about how they were stuck on a plane, on the tarmac for HOURS without snacks and little snacks. Even if you’re a light traveler, this scenario can, and probably will happen, at some point or another.

When you pack your own healthy snack, you’ll be less likely to purchase something unhealthy at the airport or on-board your flight. Most airplane/airline food and snacks are overpriced, and that’s just another reason to bring your own snacks!

Fresh and Dried Fruit:

Try to bring along fresh, firm fruits and keep them whole so that way they won’t get smashed up. Either fresh or dry fruit is always a sweet option, and both are also highly nutritious. Bottom line, it’s one snack that won’t harm your diet.

Nuts:

Try to avoid bringing peanuts as there may be travelers on-board who have a peanut allergy. Otherwise you’re fine to bring a mixture of your favorite nuts, such as almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios, walnuts. Nuts may be high in fat, but are low in carbs. Furthermore, they’re loaded with nutrients, like vitamin E, magnesium, and selenium.

Bars:

Bring along your choice of protein bars, fruit/nut bars, natural fruit bars, or granola bars. Most come in a box of six or eight bars so you’re set for a long-haul flight, or to and fro your destination. Just make sure to not purchase bars that are high in sugar!
