The excitement for Halloween is practically tangible as the holiday comes closer and closer. The weather is cooling down, the days are getting shorter, and we’re starting to feel the spookiness in the air. If you’re like us, you’re looking forward to going all out and decorating your home in honor of the holiday. Since parties might not be a possibility this year, we’re going to give you some great tips on how you can decorate your house like a pro for Halloween.
Un-Decorate First
Before you do anything, you need to make sure you have a clean slate to deal with. Take your normal picture frames off the wall and all your other decorations you might have in your house. Think accessories and anything like that. If you have throw pillows, get new seasonal covers for them as well.
Think Of A Color Scheme
Decorating for Halloween is just like decorating for any other reason: it has to be cohesive to look its best. Going with a classic combo like orange and black is always a good choice. However, if that isn’t your style, you can go for colors like black and green and maybe some purple as well. If you want a more sophisticated look, you can stick to black with metallics like silver or gold. Just run with it!
Use Pumpkins
Of course, Halloween isn’t the same without pumpkins. We all adore Jack-O-Lanterns, but pumpkins can be used in so many other ways as well. For a more chic look, you can paint pumpkins however you want. You can use pumpkins both inside and outside – even as a welcome sign that you’ve painted or as a table centerpiece you’ve carved! Get creative with it. Of course, you can branch out and do all kinds of things with them, not just one.
Candles – Lots Of Them
What’s spookier than a darkened room scattered with thin white candles? There’s a reason candles are a Halloween staple. They’re a great way to set a creepy mood in a room. To create a more intricate look, mix and match different heights and sizes. Additionally, you can use electric candles by the windows and make them flicker for a spooky effect.
Add Some Gore
If you really want to go all out, add some seriously creepy elements to your home. Think tombstones, skeletons, rats, and spiders. Place them strategically in the house so they have a creepier effect. Instead of simply placing a spider, say, on your table, hang it in a dark corner where you can catch a glimpse of it from the corner of your eye. Or, you can place a few spiders inside a lampshade for a shadowy scene. Of course, don’t forget the cobwebs as well!
Throw In Some Poison
For a great final touch, spray-paint some empty wine bottle and other glass bottles you may have lying around to create bottles of ‘poison’ you can add as decor. If you’re feeling extra fancy, you can print out some labels to stick on to really make it look great.
