Coming Together
The charters were unconcerned about the other charters at the time, and they were even unaware of their existence! The disparate groups finally came together in the 1950s to form a massive organization. This was also the time when they put in place a system with admission criteria and internal codes.
An Important Part Of Counterculture
In the ‘60s, the Hells Angels went on to be a huge part of the counterculture movement, in California and in other states. They had been big in the Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco, where they often attended social and music events. A number of members were also associated with the leading figures in art and music such as Allen Ginsberg, Ken Kesey, Jerry Garcia, the Rolling Stones, the Merry Pranksters, the Grateful Dead, and more.
