Her animal rescue efforts did not go unnoticed, and it led to the Presidential Medal of Freedom that George W. Bush bestowed upon her in 2004. She debuted on the big screen in 1948 as she took the place of Betty Hutton on the set of Romance on the High Seas. Day’s performance of It’s Magic was so good that the producers must have thought they hit the jackpot with the casting choice.
