It seemed like Constantin Panait was taking advantage of her poor English to isolate her. Clearly, there was something sketchy happening here. Panait was a married man but that did not stop him from staying in hotels and motels with Nadia. When she was asked about their relationship, Nadia only replied, “It’s a secret.” In our opinion, this sounds absolutely shady.

A Friend In Need
It was during a visit to Canada that Nadia was finally able to get some help. During her time there, she met her friend Alexandru Stefu. He asked her about her relationship with Panait and the former gymnast finally admitted that Panait was holding her against her will. Stefu was angry and confronted Panait about it, though he skipped town right away. In fact, he fled the United States with a large portion of her money. Even though he treated her badly, Nadia does not bear him ill will as he helped get her to America.
