The shells each weighed about 1000 lbs. They are huge and need to be handled with special care. Of course, the researchers were thrilled. Ricardo Bonini, a field paleontologist, said, “These types of cases, in which several individuals appear together who died in the same circumstances, are truly exceptional and will undoubtedly give us a lot of information about these enigmatic animals and will allow us to test various hypotheses that we have been handling in recent years.” But what were they looking for?

There were four fossils found, so it was generally assumed that they made up a family. The testing would be very interesting if this assumption is true. Scientists never discovered a family of these creatures before this, so it would make for more discoveries. This would have made it possible to find a new species of glyptodons. As you can see, there were a few other discoveries that they hoped to find.
