Karen Carpenter’s Passing In 1983
In 1983, Karen Carpenter sadly passed away at the young age of 32. At her parent’s house, Karen suddenly collapsed and was taken to Downey Community Hospital, which was 25 minutes away. She was actually suffering from anorexia nervosa, which is a disorder related to compulsive dieting, and the cause of her death was cardiac arrest. Karen’s anorexia was the reason for the cancellation of The Carpenters’ 1975 performance for Queen Elizabeth as well as their concert tour in Europe and the Orient. However, she continued to perform almost until her sudden death.
